Print your comic or zine in our RisoLAB at School of Visual Arts | RISO Workshop | September 23 & 24

Get that zine done. Publish the comic you’ve been working on for years. Or just learn a thing or two about one of the most exciting publishing tools around, Risograph.

Nathan Fox (Chair, MFA Visual Narrative) will run this course for 13 lucky students at School of Visual Arts. The course is co-sponsored by Society of Illustrators.

Illustrators have always been pushing the envelope of print technology and at the forefront of printed matter.
From bookstores to Etsy shops, MoCCA to SPX, comic-cons, book fairs and beyond, the Risograph duplicator has seen a resurgence in the past few years as a low-cost spot-color, “one-stop-shop” print production medium of choice for illustrators, designers, graphic novelists and visual storytellers world-wide. The Risograph duplicator has become a vital print production tool among the illustration, cartooning and printmaking community for its use as a low-cost, high-yield medium for experimentation, collaboration and self-promotion. This technology fuses analog and digital printing techniques, combining the vibrant colors of silkscreen printing with the speed and automation of digital and offset printing.
In this boot-camp style workshop students will be given a rigorous 2-day introduction to this medium on how to use it effectively as a tool for self-publishing. We will explore mark making, color and form through the risograph reproduction, along with how to approach color separation, pagination, and self publication through the Risograph printing process.
Seating is limited. Each student will receive training to operate the Risograph duplicator. Students are encouraged to bring their sketchbooks and a few dry-medium drawing tools. Continued access to the RISOLAB facilities can be purchased for an additional fee upon successful completion of the workshop.
