Shar Simpson

Shar Simpson (they/she) is a narrative designer, author, and educator. They are interested in the way technology mediates our relationship to death, intimacy, and privacy. Shar is a Sundance Storytelling Lab fellow, a fellow of the POV Spark Lab, and a member of Columbia University’s Digital Storytelling Lab. Their work has been presented at Tribeca Film Festival’s Virtual Arcade, the Slamdance Film Festival, Mozilla Fest, CPH:DOX, and others. Shar works in a variety of genres and industries, but loves Horror, mystery, and anything campy.

Shar has designed experiences for Blackout Haunted House, Children’s Hospital LA, and Meow Wolf. Their interactive YA novel “Eighth Grade Witch” was the first Choose Your Own Adventure book to be adapted into a graphic novel.

Shar teaches grad-level courses on Digital Storytelling, Interactive Theory, and World-building at Columbia University and SVA. Shar holds an MFA in Creative Writing and Interactive Media from California Institute of the Arts.
