Lucy Hodges is an Asian American artist whose childhood in Oklahoma always drew her eyes towards the sweeping skies. She spent her childhood with the window open, breeze ruffling the pages of the books that would draw her to storytelling as a lifelong pursuit. At night, she would hide under a quilt and read horror stories by flashlight, a short-sighted mistake she never learned from. The mixture of horror and wonder that haunted her mind has continued to drive the art she creates today. Inspired by the ambiguity present in the mediums of dance, song, and wonder tales, Lucy’s work conveys a surreal narrative through figural gesture and symbolism. Using a variety of mediums, including ink, gouache, and digital painting, this artist aims to remind viewers of the strange, beautiful, and at times horrific nature of the tales we make.
