Josef Albers’ ‘Interaction of Color’ brings color to your iDevice

Once in awhile technology really delivers. Today, we get word of a new app that could help our students wrap their heads around color, and use it in their storytelling.

Josef Albers’ Interaction of Color was released in 1963, immediately becoming a staple of design. Now, design firm Potion has created an app for the Apple App Store.

From the firm’s website:

The Interaction of Color app brings Josef Albers’s masterwork to the digital realm. Originally published in 1963, Interaction of Color, is considered one of the most influential books on color. It is often regarded as the classic design school text book that introduced generations of students, artists, and designers to Albers’s unique ideas of color. The digital edition provides simple and seamless access to the entire book. You can read the full text of the book and browse and interact with over 125 color plates and plate commentary. You can watch original video commentary by experts explaining Albers’s principles and interviews with contemporary practitioners, including graphic and textile designers, artists, and architects. Over 60 interactive studies are available for users to create, save, and export their palettes and final designs. The book inspires readers to think more deeply about color and we think the app will do the same!

In partnership with Yale University Press, the app is available for $9.99. We’re off to download it now!
