At MFAVN, each student’s unique approach to story is cultivated to sharpen their story-development skills, elevating their creative process and advancing their professional practice. Current students and alumni will speak about our impact on their storycraft and the discovery and development of their personal voice.

When words and images come together, they can create powerful visual narratives — stories that can touch hearts, change minds and even change the way we see our world – Story First.

MFA Visual Narrative has developed a visionary curriculum that equally emphasizes creative writing and visual storytelling across all media. In today’s workplace, storytelling is increasing demand. You’ll develop a fluency in what we call “Visual Writing.” We think of it as a whole new language that can take your creativity to the next level and give you the competitive edge in today’s creative economy.

Comprised of three eight-week summer sessions in NYC and two academic years online, this low-residency MFA program is designed for both working professionals and recent graduates from all creative disciplines who are dedicated to the art and craft of visual storytelling as both artist and author. We build a community of colleagues and mentors that supports and inspires. Graduates have moved into careers in advertising, gaming, data design, film, animation, sequential arts, and illustration.
